Superman is missing and only Lois Lane knows it. No one would believe her– well, no one who doesn’t understand their relationship, anyways. After all, who could subdue and kidnap the most powerful being in the DC Universe?
Enter Leviathan, a mysterious and malevolent force in the DC Universe that has succeeded in topping some of the world’s most covert and coveted seats of power, from A.R.G.U.S. to Spyral. And in the absence of these organizations operating at full force, a power vacuum has formed. Leviathan is right there to fill it. What they want and who they are remain a mystery, but what’s clear is that they are methodical and they are ready to upend Superman’s life.
In Superman: Leviathan Rising, an event that has been building across Action Comics, the Year of the Villain one-shot, and more, finally comes to a head. As Leviathan’s machinations are revealed, we see Superman and Action Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis’ plans for the character come to fruition as well. This one shot kicks off several new series in the Superman corner of the DC Universe, including a Lois Lane series penned by Greg Rucka and drawn by Mike Perkins. The duo takes us on a journey into Lois’ psyche and out into the dark night of Metropolis, where somewhere her partner is in need of help. And who better to assist her in this time of need than the other members of the Trinity– Batman and Wonder Woman? Rucka previously penned two beloved runs with the latter character, so to see him return to her is an extra treat.
Bendis recently called Lois “the most dangerous woman in the DC Universe” thanks to her skills as a reporter, her parentage, and her ability to control the media narrative. He continued, saying she has a central role to play in the mystery to come.
Check out the Beat’s exclusive preview of Superman: Leviathan Rising #1, out this Wednesday. The one shot leads into Event Leviathan, beginning later this June. Lois’ solo series kicks off properly in July.

An all-star roster of writers and artists highlight the new threat of Leviathan, but also tees up new ongoing series for Jimmy Olsen by writer Matt Fraction and artist Steve Lieber, and Lois Lane by writer Greg Rucka and artist Mike Perkins, coming in June! As Leviathan enacts a plan to take down Superman, it’s up to Lois, Jimmy and the heroes of the DC Universe to rescue the Man of Steel.

  1. The other commentator on this post has made an imbecilic misogynist claim about Lois Lane, the best character in comics. I think this book looks terrific.

  2. Now that we’re actually to this while Leviathan event, I’m ready to jump on board. Art looks great, and the basic premise sounds interesting.

  3. Looks to continue the great work that Bendis has been doing on Action. I’m definitely on board with this. Also, Lois rocks. Didn’t think that needed to be said, but here we are in 2019, apparently.

  4. The issue is fantastic, with the minor exception of the Supergirl segment that’s been shoe-horned into the middle. It wasn’t bad, it just felt disconnected to the rest of the book. Highlight for me was Matt Fraction/Steve Lieber Jimmy Olson section. Gonzo fun.
