No, this isn’t a joke. According to a THR Exclusive, after over two decades Jennifer Garner is set to reprise the role of assassin Elektra Natchios in Deadpool 3.

Announced last year, Ryan Reynolds is returning for one more outing as everyone’s Merc with a Mouth facing off against Hugh Jackman reprising the iconic X-Man Wolverine to boot. Directed by Shawny Levy from a script by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells , principal photography has already begun with the film set to hit theaters next summer.

Garner first portrayed Elektra in the much maligned 2003 Daredevil film and the even worse reviewed solo spinoff film. As note by THR, Garner is no stranger to working with Reynolds or Levy having appeared in The Adam Project Netflix film. It seems safe to say it was an enjoyable experience for Garner if she was willing to return to play Elektra. Studios being able to get actors reprise roles decades later has become pretty standard at this point. If Michael Keaton can suit up as Batman, anything is fair game. Clearly, Deadpool 3 is looking to outdo Spider-Man: No Way Home in terms of fan service.

The character was most recently portrayed on the small screen by actress Élodie Yung as part of the Neflix Marvel shows that included Daredevil and The Defenders crossover series. It’s been assumed that the new Deadpool film will following the current pop culture trend of playing with the multiverse, and Garner’s involvement seems to confirm it.

It was also reported that Garner’s ex-husband Ben Affleck, whom she first met on the Daredevil set, would also be returning to play the Man without Fear a.k.a. Daredevil. You can only imagine the Bennifer jokes and jabs that might wind up in the film.

Deadpool 3 arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.

  1. If we don’t get a reprise of the awful playground fight/seduction with Evanescence playing on top, what is even the point of life?
