Carol Danvers is branching out. IDW, via io9, has announced Marvel Action: Captain Marvel, the latest addition to the publisher’s line of licensed all-ages Marvel comics. The five-issue miniseries, in which Carol and Spider-Woman Jessica Drew must thwart a flerken attempt to replace all bodega cats with flerkens, will be written by Sam Maggs and illustrated by Sweeney Boo and Brittany Peer. Marvel Action: Captain Marvel joins similar IDW-published titles featuring Black Panther, Spider-Man, and the Avengers.
Marvel recently relaunched the main Captain Marvel series with writer Kelly Thompson and artist Carmen Carnero. The first arc of the series had Carol and a handful of other female Marvel heroes powerless and Fury Road-ing on a time-shifted Roosevelt Island (spoiler alert: they won, and everything’s back to normal now). Marvel Action: Captain Marvel sounds like it will hew a bit closer to the Carol seen in the Brie Larson-starring film that came out back in March, perhaps making the series more accessible than the Marvel-published title.
Check out Boo and Peer’s cover to the first issue below. Marvel Action: Captain Marvel #1 is due in stores in August.
