Marvel Studios may be bowing out of SDCC this year, but that isn’t stopping the studio from unveiling new developments from its upcoming projects. Case in point, both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took to social media this morning to post a first look at the Deadpool 3 film on their Instagram stories. To the surprise of everyone and the delight of fanboys around the world, a new image reveals that Jackman will at long last don a comic-accurate Wolverine suit in the film. The suit in question is the yellow version of the classic Wolverine costume.

This image comes hot on the heels of the announcement last week that Jennifer Garner will be reprising her role of Elektra in the sequel.

Announced last year, Ryan Reynolds is returning for one more outing as everyone’s Merc with a Mouth facing off against Hugh Jackman reprising the iconic X-Man Wolverine to boot. Directed by Shawny Levy from a script by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells , principal photography has already begun with the film set to hit theaters next summer.

This isn’t the first time Jackman came close to donning the iconic Wolverine costume. Before redeeming himself with Logan, James Mangold helmed The Wolverine, which took everyone’s favorite mutant on an adventure in Japan. A deleted scene from the film saw the character open open a case featuring the character’s brown suit, including gloves and his trademark mask.

I’m sure nearly everybody remembers the iconic scene in the first 2000 X-Men film where Cyclops asks Wolverine, “What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?” I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts we’ll get some kind of callback or reference to that scene or at least some kind of acknowledgement. If nothing else, Deadpool 3 may finally be the film that gets Marvel Studios back on track after the past few misfires in the last few years.

Deadpool 3 arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.
