Playing as a little lamb that’s sacrificed and brought back to life to do the bidding of The One Who Waits in Massive Monster and Devolver Digitial’s Cult of the Lamb is one of the most rewarding and evil smirk-inducing experiences in gaming right now. Featuring roguelite-style gameplay with base-building mechanics, the game rose to stardom thanks to its cutesy horror sensibilities and the fact you play as a cuddly animal (lovingly named Lambert by the gaming community) that’s tasked with growing an adorably dark cult filled with devout animal followers. It’s not only been a Twitch and Discord sensation, but also a growing staple of the current generation of gaming. Cult of the Lamb is a gaming phenomenon, plain and simple.
It’s only natural that the world of false prophets and furry cultists gets a deeper exploration of its lore. Oni Press is going to do just that with a new comic series titled Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse, written by Alex Paknadel and illustrated by Troy Little. The first outing in this expansive undertaking to build on the game’s world brings together Massive Monster, Devolver, and Oni for a rich collaborative effort that is now open for pre-orders on Kickstarter.

Featuring a treasure trove of exclusive and limited-edition items created in close coordination with Devolver Digital, CULT OF THE LAMB: THE FIRST VERSE includes deluxe versions of the Lamb’s landmark comic debut with an exclusive softcover edition, featuring cover art by Troy Little (Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons); an exclusive hardcover edition, featuring cover art by Juan Gedeon (DC: The Jurassic Age); four single issues featuring brand-new, never-before-seen interlocking cover art, also by Little, printed on high-quality cardstock and enhanced with UV spotgloss; or, at the campaign’s highest levels, one of four extremely limited Heretic Editions, featuring the complete series embellished with alternating suitably demonic foil and featuring brand-new, never-before-seen cover art by acclaimed CULT OF THE LAMB key artist and character designer Carles Dalmau (Soma).
Additionally, throughout the latest Oni Premium Direct pre-order campaign, CULT OF THE LAMB: THE FIRST VERSE also includes limited-edition apparel and merchandise, including high-quality ringspun t-shirts and patches silkscreened by Holy Mountain Printing; blotter paper posters and giclée art prints; devotional candles and match sets; original sketches and art pages by interior artist Troy Little; and much, much more.
The campaign will run through April 11 with a ton of surprises on the way ready to be unlocked after certain milestones are reached. To start, there’s a special “Day One” discount for backers that place pre-orders in the first 24 hours. Items included in the campaign will be fulfilled directly to backers by December 2024, as per the announcement.
As far as video game comics are concerned, this one is certainly one of the most exciting we’ve had in a while. The game’s world is as inviting as the promise of having all your desires fulfilled by a deliciously malignant entity that only demands your unwavering faith and worship. It just begged to have its own comic. Oni Press is doing the dark lord’s work here, and it’s looking like it’ll be worthy of the cult our little Lamb has put together.
