§ The return of Rat Queen’s Kurtis Wiebe with Bounty #1, a creator owned series with art by Mindy Lee ue July 6 described as at Queens meets Firefly, about a bunch of female space bandits turned bounty hunters.
“Bounty is strongly my voice and one of my favourite comics I’ve ever written,” says Wiebe. “While it’s about sisters who hunt criminals in the future, it is ultimately about the nature of family and the trust we share with those closest to us. With a little bit of action and romance on the side. What Mindy Lee is doing with the art is unlike anything I’ve seen in comics before.”
§ Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) is the new writer on Conan, conjuring visions of many Cullen the Barbarian headlines. Sergio Davila (Red Sonja, Swords of Sorrow) will be the artist for a series called Conan the Slayer. According to plot lines, Conan faces danger and battle amongst the Turanians and Kozaki and it’s a good jumping on point for new readers. Hint to new readers: Conan often faces danger and battle. The book goes on sales July 13th.
§ The usual gang of Groo idiots continues their run than 30 years of mishaps and mulch, with Groo: Fray of the Gods, a 12 issue maxi series. Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier, Tom Luth and Stan Sakai do the honors, as they have done for decades. This hits July 20th.
The gods did not bless Groo with brains, only with the ability to battle. Now, they themselves are in conflict over the spirit and future of mankind…and it is Groo who becomes the pawn (unwitting, of course) in their war. If the future of humanity depends on the Wanderer—we’re all in a lot of trouble.
