Writer Dan Abnett (Aquaman) has just been announced for an exclusive deal over at DC. The creator, best known for reimagining Guardians of the Galaxy with his writing partner Andy Lanning has already been announced as the writer of DC’s upcoming Aquaman series during Rebirth. Rebirth is the publisher’s brand new superhero line-wide initiative that kicked off with this Wednesday’s DC Universe: Rebirth #1. The writer just finished the Titans Hunt mini-series for DC and will also be the author of the upcoming Titans series featuring Brett Booth (The Flash) contributing artwork to the series. He will be allowed to create comics content exclusively for DC’s Vertigo creator-owned content and superhero lines.
Abnett’s Aquaman series is shipping twice-monthly from DC and includes Phil Briones (Harbinger), Scot Eaton (New Excalibur), Oscar Jimenez (Crossed: Badlands), Jesus Merino (Aquaman) and Brad Walker (Detective Comics). Titans penciller Booth is drawing the series shipping monthly from the publisher. Abnett follows in the footsteps of Joshua Williamson (The Flash), who was signed following the Rebirth announcement at WonderCon along with notable creators like Scott Snyder (Batman), Tom King (The Vision), Clay Mann (Gambit) and more.
The publisher had a quote from author Jim Lee from there official website write up that announced the deal for Abnett: “Dan Abnett is the perfect fit for Aquaman and Titans,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee. “He skillfully balances great dialogue and high-octane action, making for great reads every time. DC is excited that he’ll be giving fans more great stories in both books as we enter into our line wide REBIRTH re-launch in June and beyond.”
Abnett chimed in with the following comment;”I was delighted by Dan DiDio’s invitation to sign exclusively with DC,” said Abnett. “My recent work for DC, on projects like He-Man, Earth 2 and Titans Hunt have been both rewarding and enjoyable, and now with Aquaman’s Rebirth in the mix, and the Titans as a new series, it seems like the ideal time to really focus on DC work and do my best to knock each and every issue out of the park. Not that we have baseball parks in the UK. We have cricket pitches. But the point stands, anyway…”
Aquaman Rebirth #1 and Aquaman are both being published in June with the Rebirth one-shot seeing seeing print June 8 followed by issue #1 on the 22nd of the month.
