Per a press release from Marvel, the studio has announced that G.I. Joe: Retaliation actress Elodie Yung has been cast in the role of Elektra for the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil.

Yung will join Jon Bernthal, who was cast as Frank Castle aka The Punisher just a few weeks ago, as the newest additions to the growing ensemble. Here is how Marvel describes this iteration of the character:

…a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.

Elektra was briefly referenced during the episode that contained flashbacks to Matt and Foggy’s college days, the chances of getting more of those types of throwback moments next season are pretty good. Hopefully Foggy’s musical tastes improved at some point (Train, yeesh…).

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb had this to say regarding Yung:

After a worldwide search,  we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity. Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.

Not only does Yung have the perfect look for Elektra, but she also apparently practiced karate for ten years, so it looks as though she’ll be quite the fit for the high impact combat of next season’s episodes. Now, the question is, who will they cast for Bullseye?

Daredevil Season 2 arrives next year on Netflix.
