Big Dog Ink to become an imprint of Aspen Comics
Every once in a while I mention the "small companies banding together to survive in a hostile environment" strategy, and here's a perfect example. Aspen Comics, the long running company founded by the late Michael Turner, has acquired Big Dog Ink as an imprint. Both Aspen and Big Dog publish primarily periodicals, and that really is a tough business plan these days unless you have well known IP, and even then it is no cakewalk.
Robert Downey Jr. added to Captain America 3 for Civil War
WHOA. It turns out that Civil War tease Marvel sent out was just the prelude to the real blockbuster news: Robert Downey Jr. will play a major role in Captain America 3 which will feature the Civil War storyline.
Asbury Park Comicon moves to the Meadowlands as East Coast Comicon
Every year I've missed the Asbury Park Comicon, and every year I've regretted it, as it always sounded like a charming show in a quirky setting. And now, it seems, I won't be able to go until 2016, as the show is moving to the Meadowlands and rebranding as the East Coast Comicon, According to an email from promoter Cliff Galbraith, securing a suitable venue in Asbury Park became impossible.
DC is hiring some VPs in sales and manufacturing
Well, as everyone was saying at New York Comic-Con, the last days of DC in New York are dwindling down to months, and expect a TON of jobs to start opening up in Burbank -- although I'm also told that some of the contract folks already in place in Burbank are not being renewed, especially in the digital realm.
But there are some pretty sweet jobs opening up!

Marvel teases Civil War 2015, bringing back its most successful event ever
Not content to resurrect Secret Wars, their most successful mega-event ever, Marvel just sent out a Civil Wars teaser image showing Iron Man and Captain America once again battling for the soul of Spider-Man, as he was in the 2005 Civil War event. The cover image is by Adi Granov.
Civil War the original event was written by Mark Millar and drawn by Steve McNiven. It ran for seven issues from 2006-7 and had the tagline "Whose side are you on?" It was the waning years of the Bush administration and Milar's story played into the still fresh wound of 9/11 with a story in which Iron Man and Captain America took different sides on the eternal debate over freedom vs safety. The book was well written and had a larger subtext that just who was fighting who and really tied into the Zeitgiest. Perhaps by no coincidence it remains the ONLY event book which still sells in collected edition form (at this very moment it's Marvel's #6 book on Amazon.)
