According to a THR exclusive, it looks like Marvel Studios is adding Captain America 4 to its already robust litany of upcoming films.

THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER SPOILER WARNING

The epic finale of the Disney+ Marvel Studios original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has arrived. Be sure to read The Beat‘s episode recap by Therese Lacson. I don’t think it will come as a surprise to anyone that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) ended up taking the shield and officially donned the Captain America mantle in the episode. After all, Marvel Studios has been telegraphing it since Avengers: Endgame, where thanks to some time travel shenanigans that led to the original Cap Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) aging to an elderly man, he bestowed Sam the shield with his blessing. Not to mention that Sam becoming Cap comes straight from a Marvel comics storyline back in 2014.

Falcon and the Winter SoldierLooks like fans wondering what the future holds for Sam Wilson as Cap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t have to wait long. According to THR, Malcolm Spellman, the creator and head writer of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will be co-writing the script fourth Cap installment with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the Disney+ series. No director is currently attached.

The finale certainly left us with some dangling plot threads that will likely be picked up in Captain America 4. Former S.H.I.E.L.D. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) was granted a full pardon and her old job ready to take her back. With nobody (but the audience) aware that she was the mysterious Power Broker all along. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that will come into play in Captain America 4.

It’s also a pretty safe bet to say we can expect Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus that I don’t anyone saw coming) along with John Walker (Wyatt Russell) as the newly minted US Agent moniker to play some role.

It’s also very possible now that Danny Ramirez will be reprising his role as Joaquin Torres from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and salvaging Sam’s old gear to become the new Falcon, not dissimilar to his comics counterpart.

It’s already a jammed slate of Marvel Studios film including Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home set to release to theaters later this year. Looking further next year in 2022, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for release on March 25, Thor: Love and Thunder on May 6, and Black Panther II on July 8, and Captain Marvel 2 on November 11. And let’s not forget that Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, plus Fantastic Four are also coming down the pike. We’ll have to wait and see where precisely Cap 4 falls on the release schedule.
