In Gemini Journey by Tracy MacLauchlan and Yesenia Carrero, you can escape into a fantasy world where things operate a little bit more like the lifestyle to which you are accustomed that you might expect!
The story follows the eponymous Gemini Journey, an Atlantean who is determined to make her own way in the world (but she’s maybe not quite prepared for the responsibilities that will entail). She’s joined by her roommate, Veil Taffeta, a bibliophile whose well-meaning advice may not always be so helpful as it is intended to be.
There’s plenty to love in Gemini Journey, between the charismatic and expressive characters, the incandescent art, and the very cute jokes that transpose the tropes of the fantasy genre onto the trials of everyday life – for example, in one panel, we get a glimpse of a pet shop window that contains a puppy version of Cerberus, the three-headed hound who guards the Underworld.
How do you deal with dragons on your treasure pile (especially when they act more like flying cockroaches)? What kind of job means that the grim reaper is your boss (answer: flower shop)?
