Here’s how AfterShock describes Bylines in Blood#4:

Our fearless private detective Satya is now public enemy No. 1, framed for a murder she didn’t commit. She’ll need to outrun the police before she can force a final confrontation with Denzin’s murderer. And just as Satya makes a break in the case, the mysterious assassin goes after someone new: the person Satya loves most.

In a statement back when the series was first announced, co-writer Erica Schultz described the themes at play in the series:

“Bylines in Blood is about the death of truth and how one former journalist regains her humanity. Is that right, Aneke and Van? I’m asking because I feel like I’m answering an English 101 essay question. It’s about crime, corruption, and how many people…but not everyone…can be bought. Satya Chatterjee is a journalist-turned-private dick who is hired to find her mentor’s killer. Usually Satya is digging into other people’s pasts for her job, but now she has to dig into her own and face all the skeletons and regrets.”
