As busy Robert Kirkman is working on the Invincible television series, he still makes time to dip his toe whether for the Battle Beast ongoing series or introducing the new character Ella Mental into the Invincible Universe through backup stories featured in the Capes title. Fans will be excited that the backup stories won’t be ending anytime soon with Skybound announcing that starting next month feature an all-new Invincible Universe backup story from Kirkman and the artistic team of Nate Bellegarde and Annalisa Leoni that will officially introduce fan-favorite characters Business Baby and Big Mildew into the comics.
Originally appearing as incidental superhero background in the first season of the Invincible animated series, the characters quickly became favorites among the show’s crew and eventually viewers. According to the press release, the backup stories will explore “the origins of the duo as Business Baby sets out to become a hero and discovers an unexpected friend along the way.” This isn’t the first time characters from the Invincible show made the jump to comics. Most recently, the character of Riley appeared her appearance in Capes sporting the superhero codename Maxima’am.
The Business Baby and Big Mildew story will continue in new back-ups appearing in Capes #13-18. Capes #13 will hit comic book shops on November 25, 2026.

Capes #13 will also kick off a brand-new arc (with special Invincible Universe guest appearances) from writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Blood & Thunder), artist Mark Englert (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and letterer Rus Wooton (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast). In the aftermath of Dinosaurus’ attack, the heroes of Capes, Inc. face an even bigger threat—market competition! That means they’ll need new recruits and better ratings, because saving the day just doesn’t pay the bills like it used to.
“This new arc of Capes takes our heroes far and wide—around the globe and even into space,” said Katii O’Brien, Senior Editor at Skybound. “But no matter where they are, their boss Commander Capitalism will be circling back about budgets and team optics. Readers can expect lots of action as well as some surprise character cameos from Invincible, but no shortage of workplace antics, either.”
Capes #13 features a lineup of covers including a main cover by Mark Englert, and additional open-to-order covers by Conor Hughes, Nate Bellegarde & John, Gleb Melnikov, Sweeney Boo, an additional Business Baby cover by Nate Bellegarde & Annalisa Leoni and a blank sketch cover.
Invincible continues its winning streak, with Season 4 of the hit animated series on Prime Video becoming the most-watched season of the series to date. Season 5 is currently in production for release next year, and an early renewal for Season 6 was announced earlier this year.
