Yesterday Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for Black Adam, the forthcoming feature film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular DC Comics antihero. DC has previously announced plans for a number of prequel one-shots, Black Adam – The Justice Society Files, with the first two one-shots spotlighting Hawkman and Cyclone. Today DC released the photo variant covers for all four of the one-shots, featuring Aldis Hodge‘s Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell‘s Cyclone, Noah Centineo‘s Atom-Smasher, and Pierce Brosnan‘s Doctor Fate.

While yesterday’s trailer offered glimpses of the four JSAers in the film, these variant covers are the first clear still shots fans have gotten of each character, and they all look pretty great, and remarkably comic-accurate.
Along with the variant covers, DC has released details for the third Black Adam – The Justice Society Files one-shot, which focuses on Atom-Smasher. The one-shot’s main story will be written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Travis Mercer. Writer Bryan Q. Miller and artist Marco Santucci will also continue their backup story series starring Adrianna Tomaz, aka Isis (played in the movie by Sarah Shahi). The one-shot will sport a main cover by Kaare Andrews.

Al Rothstein has big shoes to fill. Very big shoes. But he needs to prove himself before he can call himself Atom Smasher. He has the costume, and he has a mission…he just has tomake it through the night in one piece. And in part 3 of the Teth-Adam backup story: history begins to repeat itself as, in ancient Kahndaq, Teth-Adam’s son, Hurut, crosses a line for the greater good, while, in the present, Adrianna’s son, Amon, joins the race to save the sought-after eternium idol from Intergang’s clutches.
DC has also provided The Beat with the main cover for the Doctor Fate-centric one-shot, also by Andrews, as well as an unlettered preview of the Hawkman one-shot, with two pages from the main story by Cavan Scott, Scot Eaton, Norm Rapmund, and Andrew Dalhouse, and three pages from the back-up by Miller, Santucci, and Michael Atiyeh. The pages will eventually be lettered by Rob Leigh.
The summer of Black Adam is clearly officially underway, with recently-revealed toys from Funko, and DC putting out the forthcoming one-shots as well as a new series from writer Christopher Priest and artist Rafa Sandoval debuting later this month.
Black Adam arrives in theaters on October 21st, 2022.
