Last weekend during Batman Day on Saturday, Warner Bros. unveiled the Knightquest trailer, the second part in the Knightfall animated trilogy of direct-to-video movies.
Based on the iconic ’90s comic storyline that saw the Caped Crusader beaten both physically and spiritually by the powerhouse villain Bane, Knightquest will see Bruce Wayne abdicate the Batman mantle to Jean-Paul Valley (voiced by Pablo Schreiber) better known as the violent anti-hero known as Azrael. As seen in the Knightquest trailer, former Robin Dick Grayson (now Nightwing) will be appearing to aid Gotham City in its time of need. Likewise, fans can expect to see more of Batman’s classic rogues terrorizing Gotham City most notably Two-Face. The full voice cast has yet to be revealed but it’s safe to assume actors from the first part will be reprising their characters including Anson Mount as Batman and Michael Mando as Bane.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the first part of this Knightfall trilogy has been an unequivocal hit garnering immense praise from long-time fans, particularly in regards to the design and aesthetics of that comics era and the iconic Kelley Jones covers. If Knightquest is anything like the first part, then it’s a safe bet that Warner Bros. Animation has yet another winner on its hands. Nothing better than seeing Jean-Paul Valley’s Batman suit armor in action!
