Arrow may be entering its final season in a few weeks, but The CW is reportedly looking to continue into the future of Star City. EW reports that an episode of the upcoming eighth season of Arrow will be a backdoor pilot for a spin-off series focused on the characters Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy Rodgers), and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).

McNamara’s Mia Smoak the grown daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, and was featured alongside Harkavy’s Drake in flash-forward sequences during Arrow‘s 7th season. Rodgers also appeared as Laurel Lance during those sequences, as a member of a group called The Canaries who protect the crime-riddled Star City of the year 2040. The flash-forwards also featured a grown version of Oliver and Felicity’s son, William (Ben Lewis), as well as Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones), who in the Arrowverse is the son of John Diggle and Lyla Michaels.

This backdoor pilot would be The CW’s latest attempt at a female-centric spin-off of a popular franchise. Last year the long-running series Supernatural featured a backdoor pilot for a spin-off called Wayward Sisters; the network ended up not pursuing the series. The Arrowverse has already had success with similar expansion, though, with Grant Gustin‘s Barry Allen having first appeared on Arrow before spinning off to star on The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow being a spin-off that featured characters from both Arrow and The Flash before introducing new characters. The CW’s schedule is already pretty crowded with DC superhero TV shows, though with Crisis on Infinite Earths looming who knows what the landscape will look like come 2020.

Arrow returns for it’s eighth and final season on October 15th.
