Spawn #300 has been getting a fair amount of press lately, but there’s another title hitting the triple-century mark that’s gotten less buzz but has considerably farther reach than Todd McFarlane’s creation. The three hundredth issue of Archie Jumbo Comics Digest hits stores next week. The publisher has produced dozens of digest series since the early ’70s, featuring both new and reprinted stories starring the Riverdale gang, and as I wrote when this 300th issue was originally solicited, Archie digests are some of the only comics that you can still regularly find in grocery stores and other non-specialty shop outlets. Their continued success and accessibility for new readers both in terms of storytelling and being available to purchase widely is worth celebrating.
Check out a preview of Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #300, exclusive to The Beat, below. The preview includes two pages of a brand-new, 300-themed story, as well as a full five-page classic story. Retailing for $6.99, the 192-page digest hits stores next Wednesday, June 26th.
