The CW’s Batwoman pilot continues to come together. Late in the day yesterday, Deadline reported that Rachel Skarsten has been cast as the villain called Alice. Skarsten will star opposite Ruby Rose, who made her debut as Kate Kane/Batwoman during this year’s Arrowverse crossover.

Though the Deadline article doesn’t mention it, the comic book version of Alice is a villain with a personal connection to Batwoman. Introduced by Greg Rucka and JH Williams III during their Detective Comics run, Alice is Kate Kane’s long-lost sister, Elizabeth Kane, who had been presumed dead since Kate was a child.

Skarsten is no stranger to genre television, having appeared on shows like Lost Girl and Beauty and the Beast. She previously starred as Queen Elizabeth I on The CW’s Reign, which ran for four seasons and wrapped in 2017. Comic book TV show fans with long memories will also recognize Skarsten as Dinah Lance on the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series from 2002.

While the pilot for Batwoman is still in development, The CW president Mark Pedowitz expressed enthusiasm for the show at a recent Television Critics Association event, saying he hoped to be able to order it to series.
