Very sad news out of Florida, where Mike Pandel, employee at A Comic Shop and co-host of the store’s video blog A Comic Show and The Nerdy Podcast, is in a coma after a car accident and not expected to pull through.
Pandel, an avid biker, as his Twitter feed showed, ran an intersection while riding his bike yesterday and was struck by a car, leading to severe head trauma. Friends and fans are showing their support and sharing memories of Pandel in the above thread.
My own interactions with Pandel were brief—a few con bar evenings—but he was immediately memorable and recognizable as someone who loved comics, loved promoting them, and loved life. He was one of a kind, and my heart goes out to his family and friends at this devastating loss.
This is horrible news. I met him a couple of times when I lived in Florida, and he was always excited to share his latest favorites.
Good lord, what awful news. My best wishes and thoughts are with him and his loved ones at this terrible time.
That is truly sad news and my heart goes out to him. Having just lost my dad to a 3 week cancer battle, I have become of the mind that it is not over while there is still a pulse beating, so instead of condolences to his family I want to wish Mike a speedy recovery, there is always a chance.
Oh, God, that’s awful. The little time I’ve spent with Mike was very memorable. Hoping he can pull through.
I hung out with Mike and the gang a couple days last year, Mike is a great guy, my thoughts are with his family and friends.

I feel horrible about this and I never even met him… but he touched a lot of lives, and in a positive way.

Mike’s a smart, funny, great person. I’ve had a lot of fun hanging with him and Aaron & Jason from A Comics Shop. This news is simply hard to believe — he’s so full of life. Let’s all say a prayer for him and his family.
Sad to hear. Met him at C2e2 the first year it ran and they held a little advertising workshop that was interesting. Full of enthusiasm for books and for sharing ideas with other retailers…

Tragic news. I’ve known Mike for a few years, and he was always one of the most excited guys working at the shop. My heart goes out to those that were close to him.
Mike was definitely one of the most fun people to talk to. I’ll definitely miss seeing him around and talking to him about comics – or anything, really.
