It’s already a big week for Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars, along with Martin Freeman, in the New Year’s Day episode of Sherlock that will surely be making waves later this week.

The timing is probably more than coincidental here, as Marvel and Entertainment Weekly have produced the first image of the actor as Doctor Strange:

Cumberbatch certainly looks the part here. He also was quoted by the magazine, in the first of what will likely be a few bits and pieces about the movie. Here he talks about Strange’s spell casting:

I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.

A teaser trailer is surely around the corner at this rate. Doctor Strange releases on November 4th.

  1. wasn’t sure if they would punk out in making doc strange look the way he looks in the comics, maybe go for a whole new look instead. glad to see they went classic with some added touches to the overall look. coolest accessory? the cloak of levitation.

  2. It’s a little thing but the fact that they tried to get something like the high collar right fills me with confidence about the whole film. There’s no way you can make the comic version work in the real world but that they wanted to try shows me something.

  3. As someone with little to no interest in the comics character, this is a promising first look.

Reflect on how far we’ve come since those awful first look images of the original X-Men film’s costumes.
