This fall, Mad Cave Studios is bringing readers a new take on classic Romanian folklore. The new graphic novel Whisper of the Woods comes from writer/artist Ennun Ana Iurov and letterer Micah Myers, and follows a young man on a desperate search for a missing friend who encounters more than he ever imagined.
Here’s how Mad Cave describes Whisper of the Woods:
In search of his missing friend, Adam travels to the heart of Romania’s most supernatural forest, Hoia Baciu. Disregarding the local’s warnings of iele hunting the men in the vicinity, and the witch’s premonition of his impending death, he remains steadfast in his decision to find his friend. Though with every passing night, it becomes impossible to ignore the happenings around him…
Whisper of the Woods is the latest Mad Cave release from Ennun Ana Iurov, whose previous work for the publisher includes art duties on the young adult graphic novel Needle & Thread, with writer David Pinckney and letterer Myers, published through Mad Cave’s Maverick imprint.
In a statement announcing the new book, Iurov expressed their enthusiasm at bringing Whisper in the Woods to readers:
“I’m really excited for Whisper of the Woods to finally be released. It’s a bit nerve wracking, it being the first comic officially published that I not only drew for but also wrote. Regardless, I hope people will give it a try, find some enjoyment in it, and that this comic will make people more interested in Romanian folklore, since we have a lot of dark, creepy monsters and stories that I’m sure many people would enjoy.”
Look for Whisper in the Woods to arrive in stores on October 24th, 2023.
