Westworld fans will see another familiar face in the already star-studded cast in season three.Deadline reports that award-winning French Actor Vincent Cassel, known for his roles in Ocean’s Twelve and Black Swan, will join fellow newcomers Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Lena Waithe in the lauded HBO drama. Details on Cassel’s role are scant, which is typical not just of Westworld but of HBO as a whole—the network goes to extreme lengths to keep its critical darlings (like Game of Thrones) as tightly under wraps as possible.
Westworld series creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy issued a statement on Cassel’s casting: “We’re incredibly excited to work with Vincent Cassel. We’ve been longtime fans of his and are thrilled for him to join the Westworld team.”
Multiple outlets are reporting that Cassel will play a villain in the sci-fi drama. The Hollywood Reporter notes that season three will allegedly mark a “radical shift” in the storytelling, especially now that two major players are occupying new roles following the season two finale. Paul’s character is rumored to be involved somehow with Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores, but how Cassel factors into things remains to be seen.
HBO has yet to confirm a premiere date for the highly-anticipated new season of Westworld. The show is supposed to return in 2020.
