Yesterday BOOM! Studios released a first look at We Only Find Them When They’re Dead, the new creator-owned sci-fi series from writer Al Ewing, artist Simone Di Meo, color assistant Mariasara Miotti, and letterer AndWorld Design. Today the publisher has released, exclusively to The Beat, key character art by Di Meo for the cast of the series. Included are the four-member crew of the Vihaan II — Captain Malik, Alice Wirth, and siblings Jason & Ella Hauer — as well Paula Richter, an officer who supervises the crew’s missions, plus an image of one of the dead alien gods the crew is tasked with mining for resources.
Here’s how BOOM! Studios describes We Only Find Them When They’re Dead:
Meet Captain Malik and the crew of the Vihaan II, a spaceship that harvests resources from the giant corpses of alien gods found on the edge of human space. While other autopsy ships race to salvage the meat, minerals, and metals that sustain the human race, Malik sees an opportunity to finally break free from this system by being the first to find a living god. But Malik’s obsession with the gods will push his crew into danger at the darkest reaches of space—unless the rogue agent on their trail can stop them first…
With high-profile work for Marvel including the award-winning Immortal Hulk and the current Empyre event series, Ewing has become one of the hottest writers in comics, and Di Meo, longtime artist on BOOM!’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, is set for a big year of his own between this series and the debut of Marvel’s Champions relaunch.
Check out the character art from Di Meo below. The preorder cutoff date for We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #1 is next Monday, August 10th, with the issue due in comic shops on Wednesday, September 2nd.
