Mad Cave Studios has announced a young adult adaptation of its beloved fantasy graphic novel, The Tiger’s Tongue, slated for release in the spring. The original creative team of writer Olivia Stephens, artist Diansakhu Banton-Perry, colorist Bex Glendining, and letterer Joamette Gil return for the YA adaptation from Maverick, which The Beat can exclusively preview below.
The Tiger’s Tongue follows twin princesses Aridani and Kelindi, who hold their people’s future in their hands. The Claw are empowered by animal familiars, but they are on the brink of war with the oppressive Tiger’s People, who rule through a powerful military force.
To save the future of the Claw, Kelindi and Aridani have to get on the same page. Kelindi seeks peace with the subjugated River’s People, but Aridani has no desire to rule whatsoever. Whatever their personal hopes and dreams, an ancient prophecy may predetermine their fate…
“We’re so excited to add Tiger’s Tongue to the Maverick lineup this year! The creative team has crafted a unique story unlike anything else we have at Maverick,” said Maverick’s senior editor, Lauren Hitzhusen. “It follows two teenage sisters vying for the same throne in the midst of a war between oppressors and oppressed. At its core, Tiger’s Tongue is about sisterhood, freedom, and what power means. Bringing it over to Maverick, where it’s our focus to showcase queer and diverse casts, is the perfect move. We are excited to introduce Kelindi and Aridani to a new audience.”
