Mad Cave imprint Maverick has revealed Listen, a supernatural young adult graphic novel by writer Brian Hawkins (Block’d, Nottingham), artist Sandra Maria Perea (Rivers of London: Monday Monday), colorist Rebecca Nalty, and letterer Chas! Pangburn, releasing December 15, 2026. The book follows Xiara Jackson, a teenage preparatory school student, who loses her hearing after a car accident that takes the life of a close friend. However, on returning home, she begins to “hear” Death itself instead.

The full synopsis says, “When she learns the sound she’s hearing is being investigated by a former storm chaser curious about cymatics, and that the sound is connected to other strange events in town, including some suspicious deaths, Xiara sets out to find the source of the sound, why she’s the only one that can hear it, and how the sound is connected to death to stop it before it happens again.”

Hawkins says, “I wrote Listen from a very personal place, and so part of reading Listen will be experiencing how horror helps to heal.” Maverick describes the book as “a supernatural mystery with themes of grief, bereavement, and the difficult path toward recovery,” aimed at readers “drawn to emotionally grounded stories where personal trauma and unexplained phenomena collide.”

Listen will retail in paperback at 200 pages for $16.99 when it releases next month. You will be able to pre-order it from your local comic shop or bookstore, or directly from Maverick, until November 23. In the meantime, you can check out a four-page preview below.
