Image Comics has announced Innen, a dialogue-free one-shot by writer Robert Windom (M1: Monster Racing League) and artist Mirko Čolak (Spawn) for January 2027. A tale of revenge set in a futuristic Japan, Innen follows a young girl seeking to avenge her mother’s murder, who discovers an ancient helmet that transforms its wearer into a warrior demon. “To quench her bloodlust, she’ll need to defeat her helmet’s karmic enemy.”

The title derives from a Japanese word, which Image says “refers to an inescapable relationship between rivals”. It can be used to mean a chance or opportunity, a predestined relationship, or cause and effect.
Windom says, “I have been a fan of Mirko’s for a long time and knew he’d be perfect for a real challenge: a throwback to G.I. Joe #21, where the art has to say everything.” The groundbreaking G.I. Joe #21 (“Silent Interlude”), by writer/artist Larry Hama, was published by Marvel in 1984, and followed the silent ninja Snake Eyes on a solo rescue mission.
Čolak adds, “The absence of dialogue presented a unique challenge, pushing me to tell the story entirely through visuals, expressions, and atmosphere.”
Innen will be released on January 20, with a main cover by Colak, and two variants by M1: Monster Racing League artist Jae Lee. You can check these out along with a preview below in the meantime. M1: Monster Racing League #6 will be released beforehand on November 25, with issues #7-8 set to follow on December 30 and January 27.
