After working primarily for mainstream comic publishers for the majority of his career, noted artist Jae Lee announced last summer that he would be releasing his first creator-owned comic series in over 25 years with Seven Sons, a 7-issue miniseries drawn by Jae Lee and co-written by filmmakers Robert Windom (Stars Fell On Alabama) and Kelvin Mao (10 Minutes Gone) with colours by June Chung and letters by Simon Bowland. Today, Image Comics released preview art and release details for the miniseries, set to launch this June.

Described as The Fugitive paired with The Da Vinci Code’s Biblically high stakes, the series follows “Delph—a young man who may be the Second Coming of Christ—[who] runs for his life as he attempts to learn the truth behind his existence.”

Known for his distinct art style for various projects including the Dark Tower comic adaptation, The Sentry, and the Eisner-award winning Marvel Knights Inhumans miniseries, Lee expressed great excitement to return to creator-owned comics. “Seven Sons is a complex and interesting story that grabs you from page one,” said Lee. “I’m excited for people to join us on this thrill ride!”

Windom further added, “Kelvin and I were interested in exploring the impact of religion in society—but with murder, mystery, romance, and even a missile attack or two—and Jae Lee is the perfect artist to realize our vision of this alternative history.”

In addition to the main cover by Lee, additional 1:25 copy and 1:50 copy incentive covers also drawn by Lee will be available.

Check out the newly-released preview pages below. Seven Sons #1 arrives in stores and digitally on Wednesday, June 15.
