Maverick, Mad Cave Studios’ young adult imprint, has unveiled New Romantics, a new graphic novel about theater kids by writer Jennie Wood (I Didn’t Ask For This, Paper Planes), artist Dozerdraws (Paper Planes, The Last Session), and letterer Micah Myers. The book, due out next year, follows a group of drama students as they move forward after their high school’s drama department is dissolved.

The full synopsis says, “When Maple Falls Christian School cancels its drama department, theater-obsessed Sawyer Chase refuses to give up her dreams. She forms New Romantics, a student performing group, but keeping the act ‘wholesome’ proves impossible when secret crushes, hidden identities, and forbidden romances collide with the expectations of their school, parents, and small-town community.”
Wood and Dozerdraws previously teamed up at Maverick on Paper Planes in 2023. The book, about two former friends at a summer camp for troubled youth, picked up a Next Generation Indie Book Award, and an IPPY Bronze Medal. Wood’s previous graphic novel, the influencer satire I Didn’t Ask for This, was also released by Maverick earlier this year.
New Romantics will be released on January 26, 2027, and retail at 206 pages digitally for $8.99, in paperback for $16.99, and hardcover for $21.99. The book is available to pre-order directly from Maverick, your local comic book store, and all major bookstores.
