Four of the most iconic females in comics come together in Dynamite’s latest crossover comic, Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica. When a string of paranormal murders threaten the residents of Riverdale, the unexpected team must work together to figure out what is going on.

The story brings together writer Amy Chu (Red Sonja, KISS: The End, Poison Ivy) and artist Maria Laura Sanapo (DC Comics Bombshells, Charmed). Chu has fond memories of the Archie crowd from her childhood.

“Archie was one of the few comics my Mom would buy for us now and then. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so my mom wasn’t about to blow it all on comics,” the scribe shares. “Whereas I’ve done quite a bit of Red Sonja to date, this is my first Archie book, and also Vampirella. Of course there’s the challenge of pulling it off, not every kind of story is suited for this kind of team up.”

The crossover promises beautiful cover art from Fay Dalton (James Bond: Casino Royale, Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys), Paulina Ganucheau (Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt, Mother Panic), and Archie Horror legends Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie, Black Panther, Will Eisner’s The Spirit), Robert Hack (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Elvira Mistress of the Dark), and Laura Braga (Blossoms 666, Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica, DC Comics Bombshells). Dan Parent, who has written and drawn the Riverdale crew for more than 30 years, will contribute to the series. There will also be cosplay covers for each of the four heroines.

“We’ve wanted to play in the sandbox with the Dynamite gang for some time, and I’m really happy the stars aligned on this one,” said Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura. “Amy Chu’s story is a fun, energized romp that brings together our iconic duo of Betty and Veronica with Vampi and Red Sonja. Four badass ladies join forces for a crossover you won’t forget. What more could you want?”

“Like so many comic book fans, Archie was a constant favorite as a youngster. I’ve been so impressed with how they’ve taken the publishing to a new level in recent years with diverse stories like the Archie Horror line and the New Riverdale relaunch. And like so many others, I’m glued to my TV watching Riverdale now,” said Nick Barrucci. “I just knew we had to do this crossover for the fans!”

To add even more to this exciting event, Dynamite is releasing a collectible enamel pin set designed by Francavilla. Fans can choose their favorite gal or buy the complete set of four.

“I’ve been working for both Dynamite and Archie Comics for a decade now, so when I was approached with the first crossover between these two favorite publishers of mine, I was ecstatic,” said Francavilla. “Not only was I asked to do a cover featuring four of the best, strongest female characters in comics, but I also got to do pins for each character. Best. Crossover. Ever!”

Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica #1 is slated for release in May. Ask your favorite comic shop in March to preorder your copies. Look out for the companion pins in May.

  1. I sincerely hope that artwork on the title page isn’t who is doing the interiors for this book. Because yikes. I know Dynamite has a reputation for great covers and lackluster interiors, but I’ve never seen such a wide quality gulf before.
