The Flash, the live-action movie starring DC’s resident scarlet speedster, is due out in theaters in Fall 2022. To prepare fans for the multiverse-spanning superspeed adventure, DC Comics has announced The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, a new three-issue prelude series set to debut in April. The series is written by Kenny Porter and illustrated by a trio of artists, with Ricardo López Ortiz drawing the first issue, Juan Ferreyra on the second issue, and Jason Howard on the series conclusion. No additional interior creators were named in the announcement. The first issue features a main cover by Max Fiumara, and a variant cover illustrated by The Flash director Andy Muschietti.

Here’s how DC describes The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive:

In The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, Barry Allen’s world-saving adventure with the Justice League has driven Central City’s favorite son to become a truly skilled and inspirational Super Hero. But when a new threat by the name of Girder emerges in Central City, Barry turns to Batman for advice on training to master his powers. Under the Dark Knight’s tutelage, The Fastest Man Alive will have to find a way to defeat this metallic menace or be crushed by Girder’s strength!

The teaming of The Flash and Batman in the series isn’t a huge surprise given the mentor/mentee relationship between the two in the Justice League film (either version, really), or given what’s known about the upcoming The Flash movie, which will find Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) teamed with both his universe’s Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and the Batman of another timeline (a returning Michael Freaking Keaton). The film will also introduce Supergirl to the DCEU, as played by Sasha Calle.

The Fastest Man Alive is the first full series for DC Comics written by Kenny Porter, who has contributed to a number of anthologies previously including Dog Days of Summer, New Year’s Evil, and an issue of Batman: Urban Legends. Artist Ricardo López Ortiz’s most recent DC work was in the pages of Batman, where he drew an absolutely gorgeous series of Ghost-Maker backup stories.

Look for the 48-page The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #1 (of 3) to arrive in stores and digitally on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022. A trade paperback collection of the series is due in stores in October, ahead of the release of The Flash movie in November.
