Next week, Random House Books for Young Readers will release The BIG Adventures of Babymouse: Once Upon a Messy Whisker. The first volume of the new middle grade graphic novel series comes from the Eisner Award-winning brother-and-sister team of writer Jennifer L. Holm and artist Matthew Holm. Today The Beat is delighted to present an exclusive preview of the graphic novel, which sees the titular Babymouse at school and fighting with her locker.

Here’s how Random House describes The BIG Adventures of Babymouse: Once Upon a Messy Whisker:

NEW adventures, BIGGER imagination, same MESSY WHISKERS — Babymouse learns to be careful what you wish for in this BIG brand-new FULL-COLOR graphic novel series, perfect for young readers who love to laugh!

Babymouse has a BIG imagination. In her dreams, she’s the BEST at everything — she’s the coolest, the smartest, the strongest, and she DEFINITELY has nice, neat whiskers! In real life? Not so much. But WHAT IF Babymouse could make her fantasies come true…?

The book is the first in a new series of Babymouse graphic novels from the Holm siblings. The original Babymouse series launched in 2005, and released twenty books before wrapping in 2016. In 2013, the sixteenth book in the series, Babymouse for President, won the Eisner Award for Best Publication for Early Readers. The series has also spawned a number of spinoffs, also written and illustrated by the Holms, including Little Babymouse and Babymouse: Tales from the Locker.

Check out the exclusive five-page preview below. The BIG Adventures of Babymouse: Once Upon a Messy Whisker is due out in stores next Tuesday, September 27th.
