A stroll down memory lane: Dan DiDio’s personal history of The Crisis Era

12
Say what you will about Dan DiDio: in his time as DC's first executive editor then co-publisher, he's remade a lot of what made the company tick, starting with Identity Crisis, the controversial but best selling mini series that kicked off what we at Stately beat Manor call The Crisis Era. (Infinite Crisis and the misleadingly named Final Crisis would follow). As DC's spring move to the west coast closes the cover on more than 75 years of comics history, DiDio is revisiting his own 13 years at DC on his FB page, as so many do as the new year starts and the cold wind howls outside...so step inside with us for some cocoa and Dan DiDio's fireside chat:

DC Comics to be available on the new ComicsPLUS 8.0 app

2
As we first reported after New York Comic-Con, iVerse, the other guy in the digital comics landscape, is planning a HUGE update of their app. And ComicsPLUS 8.0 is here. It's available now in the iTunes store, and for Android and the web. Now, the big question is what publishers are going with them. Amazon recently started sending out renewal contracts to various publishers, and the terms are not as favorable as Comixology's were—they are more like Amazon's. Well, if you look at the above graphic, you get a big clue—DC Comics are prominently shown

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: October 2014 – The Sweet Smell of Success

23
Greetings, sales charts fans! It's time once again to look at DC's sales figures. After last month's Futures End 3D cover extravataganza, things return to normal in October. DC continued their freely-orderable variant cover program, with the theme this month being Monster covers. The comics with variant covers are still selling higher than they would have without them, but at this point the month-to-month effects are largely subsumed by regular considerations such as creative team changes, crossovers, and standard attrition. October saw the debuts of several DCU titles, to varying effectiveness. Deathstroke by Tony Daniel and several Batman-related titles did relatively well, while a couple of supernatural-theme books (Trinity of Sin and Klarion) did less so. October was also the debut of the highly-touted revamped Batgirl, which saw the comic jump up to a top-twenty title. DC's third weekly title, Earth 2: World's End, debuted in October. Here are the first month sales of all three weekly series (plus the most recent issue for BE & FE):

10 more Convergence titles with Wolfman on Titans, Wein on Swamp Thing, etc.

The combination fan wish fulfillment and classic writer comeback that is Convergence—DC's two month fill in event slated for next March and April while the company moves—have been announced, via The Nerdist and IGN. Once again it's old home week with Marv Wolfman writing the Teen titans, Len Wein writing Swamp Thing, and artists including Tim Truman back at DC for one last go round. This was originally going to be an event that featured a lot of younger creators, and there is one—EGOs artist Gus Storms is drawing the Legion.

And one more: Warren Ellis’ Global Frequency in development once again

2
And here's another second look at a comics property that already had a time at the dance—Global Frequency, already the subject of a failed project way back in the prehistory of 2005, is getting another look as a TV show, with Jerry Bruckheimer once again leading the way.
