OK, Sunspot, we see you. Marvel released a new teaser for New Mutants #1 today, starring none other than a highly skeptical looking Bobby da Costa. In the teaser, he looks on as the Starjammers’ ship takes off, likely heading to the Shi’ar Galaxy. The teaser reads, “A trip to space… what could go wrong?”
Well, uh, everything, probably. (Mild spoilers for House of X #6 ahead!)
New Mutants #1 is written by Jonathan Hickman and Ed Brisson, with art by Rod Reis. The issue hits shelves Nov. 6 as part of the first wave of the Dawn of X. The classic team (Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Karma, Magik, and Cypher) recruit some newbies to the cause, including Chamber and Mondo. We also know from House of X #6 that Magik is a Great Captain of Krakoa, which plants her firmly in a leadership position for the team. Meanwhile, Cypher and Krakoa sit adjacent to the Quiet Council, with the former translating between the mutants and the living island that has now been declared a nation-state.
We also know, thanks to December solicitations, that Canonball makes an explosive return in New Mutants #4 — so even though this New Mutants #1 teaser is just for the first issue, it surely sets up the cosmic shenanigans to come. I thought Sunspot died in Uncanny Xmen War of Realms Was I mistaken? It was a confusing scene but I thought he was among the ghosts of the Valkyrie on the final splash. How did they ressurect him, if he was really dead?
