It’s November, and time for Weekend Reading 33! With new COVID-19 cases in the United States appearing more quickly than a bunch of whack-a-moles at a very infectious arcade, we’ll be spending yet another weekend safely inside Stately Beat Manor – and naturally, we’ll be reading!
As always, we hope that you will share you reading plans with us in the comment section. With the days getting shorter and the nights getting longer, we hope you’ve invested in a reading light! Are you going to stick with the horror of Halloween, or do you have something else planned as we head into winter?
AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’m turning to some comfort comics: I’ve got about 40% of the Bongo Comics Futurama run in one of my longboxes, and I’m going to see how much of it I can get through. And as far as prose goes, I’ll be looking into The Constant Rabbit by Jasper Fforde, a novel that has been described as an “un-subtle satire for an unsubtle time,” which just seems appropriate.
TAIMUR DAR: I’ve mentioned before that I’m a big fan of Bone by Jeff Smith. About a decade ago I purchased at a convention The Art of Bone hardcover that Dark Horse published. Can’t remember the last time I flipped through it but now that I have all this time thanks to the pandemic, no better opportunity.
ZOE TUNNELL: I’m working my way through some early Moon Knight by Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz on Marvel Unlimited for a project, but for fun I’m going to dive back into Lavender Jack by Dan Schkade on Webtoons. Easily one of my favorite comics being published right now and just a delightful, charming superhero period piece with good social commentary. Fun as hell.
