With the arrival of Saturday comes Weekend Reading 127! You know the drill: we’re going to be holing up in Stately Beat Manor and getting nice and lost in a good book!
As ever, we hope you’ll share your reading plans with us, either right here in the comments or over on social media @comicsbeat.
AVERY KAPLAN: Since Rebecca Oliver Kaplan and I have been revisiting the Cartoon Network series, this weekend we’re going to be enjoying a feast out of Adventure Time: The Official Cookbook. Stylized as an old Founder’s Island Library book that has been hand-updated by Finn & Jake & co., this book has recipes by Jordan Grosser, photography by Andria Lo, and text from the characters’ perspectives written by Christopher Hastings (The Unbelievable Gwenpool). Then while enjoying leftovers, I’ll be reading a book that’s been on my radar for a long time but which I haven’t yet had the time to enjoy: We’re Still Here: An All Trans Comics Anthology edited by Tara Madison Avery and Jeanne Thornton, with a foreword by Rachel Pollack.
ZACK QUAINTANCE: Planning to read a couple graphic novels this weekend. First up is Flung Out of Space by Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer, which seems to have quite a bit of buzz. After that, I also have an advanced copy of Everyday Hero Machine Boy by Irma Kniivila and Tri Vuong, which is part of Skybound’s YA imprint, Comet. As far as prose, I’m about halfway through Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, which is living up to its description as “the Great American gaming novel.”
DEAN SIMONS: After over a year, I am back on a Valiant binge. Currently I am making my way through the Armor Hunters storyline from 2014 which covers multiple books. The core event book is written by Robert Venditti with art by Doug Braithwaite. As well as that I am still reading Kazuki Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh! (currently at volume 4 of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist series).
TAIMUR DAR: So much good TV has dropped this long Labor Day weekend but I want to devote some time to reading as well. I’m nearing the end of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series. Going to be reading The Kindly Ones trade and hopefully get time to squeeze in The Wake trade as well.
REBECCA OLIVER KAPLAN: Although I am still finishing Stephen King’s The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah, I also plan on reading Tim Dedopulos’ She-Hulk Goes to Murderworld and Comics for Choice: Illustrated Abortion Stories, History, and Politics. I have some serious writing to do this weekend, too. I will be reading A LOT.
