After months of speculation and discussion, Ryan Gosling was announced as the new Ghost Rider at the Marvel Studios Hall H Presentation on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. A revving sound was heard by attendees at the beginning of the panel, leading to speculation about some kind of announcement related to the Spirit of Vengeance. The Project Hail Mary star joined Kevin Feige on stage early in the presentation to announce the film.
Ghost Rider will hit theaters in 2028, directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool and Wolverine).
This follows many reports that Gosling expressed interest in the Ghost Rider role. He follows in the footsteps of Nicolas Cage, who previously played the Johnny Blaze iteration of the antihero in Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Additionally, Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes incarnation on the Agents of S.H.I.E.LD television series. However, which Ghost Rider Gosling will play was not mentioned. He could be the next Johnny Blaze or the popular ’90s Ghost Rider, Danny Ketch.
Gosling and Levy recently worked on Star Wars: Starfighter, another Disney film, which will be released in May 2027.
