At the Marvel Studios Hall H Presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Kevin Feige and Ryan Coogler revealed that Black Panther 3 will hit theaters in 2028 with a new actor in the titular role: David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus).
Introduced to the Hall H crowd on Saturday, Jonsson will take on the Black Panther mantle as the late T’Challa’s son, Prince T’Challa II aka Toussaint, in the next movie in the series. He follows in the wake of the late Chadwick Boseman, who originated the role in the MCU, and Shuri actress Letitia Wright.
Coogler will return for Black Panther 3 as director and will shoot the movie natively in 70mm film.
In the MCU, Toussaint is the son of T’Challa and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), raised in Haiti by his mother to keep him away from the pressures of the Wakandan royal family and throne. Prior to her death, his grandmother, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), was the only member of the Wakandan royal family to know of his existence until Toussaint met Shuri and told her his other name.
Jonsson, an adult, is much older than the child Toussaint audiences saw at the end of Black Panther 2, suggesting a time jump in the next movie. No details about its plot or timeline have been revealed at time of writing.
Black Panther 3 will hit theaters on December 18, 2028.
