The iconic Matchbox toys from Mattel are getting their own movie full of action and adventure with John Cena in the driver’s seat. On Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, the Matchbox: The Movie trailer was revealed.
During Saturday’s Apple TV panel, the company showed a captive audience its first look at Cena, Jessica Biel, and Bill Camp in Matchbox: The Movie with a nearly 3-minute-long trailer. You can watch below.
An Apple Original Film from Skydance Media and Mattel Studios, Matchbox: The Movie follows childhood friends whose lives are thrown off their axes when one (Cena) is revealed to be an undercover CIA agent who accidentally involves them in an international chase to save the planet.
Written by David Coggeshall, directed by Sam Hargrave, and executive produced by Hargrave, Patrick Newall, and Elizabeth Bassin, the film stars Cena, Biel, Camp, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris; Danai Gurira; Golshifteh Farahani; and Corey Stoll. It follows in the wake of the highly-successful Barbie (2022), which also put a Mattel icon on the big screen.
Matchbox: The Movie will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on October 9.
