At today’s SDCC Diamond Retailer Lunch, Marvel unveiled a few new projects coming later this year. Included in these projects is an ongoing series for a fan-favorite villain written by a first-time Marvel writer; a flashback one-shot featuring one of the biggest Spider-Man villains in recent memory; tie-in comics for Marvel’s hit mobile game; and a new miniseries that will lead readers into the events of the next Star Wars movie.

Red Goblin: Red Death #1 Cover

First up, there’s Red Goblin: Red Death #1. This one-shot will look at Norman Osborn’s time as the host for the Carnage symbiote, the final major storyline of writer Dan Slott’s tenure as writer of Amazing Spider-Man. The one-shot is written by Pat Gleason, who became a Marvel-exclusive creator earlier this year. Gleason will co-write with Rob Fee and Sean Ryan. Artist Pete Woods will provide the visuals for the story.

Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - Allegiance

Next, Star Wars Episode IX gets a prelude series with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiance. The four-issue miniseries is written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Luke Ross. No further details were revealed about the series, which makes sense given the shroud of secrecy that Disney and Lucasfilm tend to keep around their Star Wars installments. Look for more information on this series later this year.

Next, Marvel is finally giving the ruler of Latveria the respect he is rightfully due. Writer Christopher Cantwell (co-creator of AMC’s Halt & Catch Fire) and artist Salvador Larroca (Star Wars) are set to create a Doctor Doom ongoing series. Victor Von Doom returned to the role of Doctor Doom after the return of the Fantastic Four, and the new series follows Doom as he struggles with memories of another life, tries to save the world from science gone wrong (wait, that doesn’t seem right), and being falsely accused of a terrible crime. Cantwell is no stranger to characters with fractured psyches, as seen in the Dark Horse series She Could Fly, and a book featuring a Doom who feels like he can’t trust his own mind sounds fascinating.

Marvel Future Fight: Crescent & Io #1

Marvel Future Fight: White Fox #1

Marvel Future Fight: Luna Snow #1

Finally, a series of one-shots featuring characters from the mobile game Marvel Future Fights will reveal the origins of the game-original characters. Writer Alyssa Wong will pen three one-shots focusing on characters Crescent and Io, White Fox, and Luna Snow. The one-shots will feature artwork by Jon Lam, Kevin Libranda, and Gang Hyuk Lim, among others.

You can check out additional details about each of these announcements below, and check back for more information from the Retailer Lunch and from Marvel as SDCC rolls on this weekend.

THE CRACK OF DOOM! Wrestling with visions of an entirely different life…a better future… DOCTOR DOOM finds himself at a crossroads. (what is he questioning?) A catastrophic act of terrorism kills thousands, and the prime suspect is… DOOM? 1. […]
