Here’s a bit of breaking news absolutely nobody saw coming. Vulture has Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail and series writer Jeff McKibben collaborating with Black Mask Studios founder Matteo Pizzolo for a Mr. Robot comic that Black Mask will publish. Antonio Fuso will be doing the art with colorist Tyler Boss.
This does explain why there’s a “Mr. Robot: Hacking Comics” at SDCC on Thursday, though.
If you’re not familiar with the show (without getting into too many spoilers), Mr. Robot is a show about a vigilante hacker with a multitude of mental disorders on a mission to destroy consumer debt and gain revenge on E Corp, the corporation responsible for much of the misery in his life.
According to Vulture, the comic “will document the formation of the mysterious group known as fsociety.” With fsociety being the hacktivist group founded by the titular Mr. Robot.
Black Mask seems like an odd place for this to pop up at first glance, but Mr. Robot is a show about revolution in many ways and Black Mask publishes comics like CalExit, so there may be some thematic common ground.
