Watch out, gang, there’s a new universe coming at ya! And it’s got one willllld trailer.
According to Deadline, Crestar and the Knight Stallion is a new graphic novel-to-TV series project, with Darick Robertson of The Boys headlining. Robertson will serve as co-producer and writer on the project, which was created by Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad, Abdallah Jasim and Najam Syed of Detriot-based Exxodus Pictures. Robertson served as exec producer on The Boys, and of course, he drew the damned thing. Plot Point 1’s Hamzah Jamjoom (Rupture) is another producing partner.
According to Deadline, the plan is for a graphic novel series and a live-action TV series, all billed as ““the first truly East meets West superhero universe developed for a global audience.” The launch includes two graphic novels available July 1, Crestar and the Knight Stallion: The Legend Begins and Crestar and the Knight Stallion: Devil’s Night, with an Arabic-language edition to follow. Robertson penned Devil’s Night.
According to Deadline:
The live-action series is planned to two homegrown heroes that hail from Detroit and Dearborn, Michigan. Crestar, a battle seasoned vigilante known as the Guardian of Detroit, finds a young man named Ali that he believes may be the world’s first superhuman and trains him to join him in his battle against corruption, tyranny and evil. Ali soon dons the Knight Stallion mask to fight crime, but has to balance his new life with his Arabic family life. Crestar, on the other hand, has never had a family at all.
The project is being led by a creative team spanning the U.S. and the Middle East, with Ahmad the co-creator, executive producer, writer and director. He will also star as the titular Crestar, with Jasim, a comedian, producer, and digital creator, co-creating the franchise and portraying Knight Stallion, the unlikely young hero.
Digging a bit beyond the Deadline story (i.e., I googled) It appears that this project has been around for a few years, but the ending of The Boys seemed like a good time to re-promote it.
A trailer for the Crestar and the Night Stallion tv show already exists and…OMG THIS IS WILD. For real you gotta watch it! I can’t even describe it.
At least one issue of the comic exists, with a cover by Travis Charest no less.
Hyper local superheroes saving Dearborn? here are worse concepts for a new universe.
