The title says it all, but Deadline reports tonight that the deep in pre-production sequel to Wonder Woman is looking for a lead villain and it looks like they might have found their target in Comedienne turned dramatic star Kristen Wiig.

According to their report, Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns and company are looking at Cheetah to clash with Diana in this hotly anticipated sequel. A follow-up that reportedly will take place during the 80’s/Cold War era.

Wiig would be a pretty fascinating choice, as since leaving Saturday Night Live, she’s bounced between family friendly voice-over roles, broader comedies (including her brilliant Bridesmaids, preceding said exit, but still…), and smaller indie fare like her turn in films like The Skeleton Twins (great flick btw) and Nasty Baby. She’s even popped up in bigger budget productions like The Martian. But this would be her first foray into an action-heavy tentpole spectacle, unless we want to debate the merits of MacGruber. She’s quite the dynamic performer, so I’d love to see this come to fruition.

Cheetah, created by William Moulton Marston and HG Peter, has been Wonder Woman’s ongoing antagonist since the early 40’s. The Barbara Minerva version as envisioned by George Perez and Len Wein is the iteration of the character that has taken a firmer hold, including playing a major role during recent the Rucka/Sharp/Scott revamp. One has to assume that’s the likely character that will inhabit the film.

Wonder Woman 2 will be released on November 1, 2019.
