The release of Capes #7 this week was not only the start of a new story arc from the creative team of writer Benito Cereno, artist/colorist Mark Englert, and letterer Rus Wooton but also first time all-new Capes material has been published in over two decades. Skybound
As those who picked up the issue are well aware, the story ended with the death of one of the company’s superhero employees. Superhero murder mysteries are definitely familiar territory such as Watchmen or Powers. Heck, even the Invincible Universe has done it with the murder of the Guardians of the Globe in the original Invincible series and the animated adaptation. With any luck, fans can hopefully expect to see an appearance from demon detective Damien Darkblood, an originally minor character in the comics who became a fan-favorite thanks to the animated series expanding his role.
The issue will continue the next chapter of the backup story from Invincible co-creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, alongside colorist Annalisa Leoni introducing Ella Mental, a new character in the Invincible Universe featured in the recent Invincible Vs video game.
Capes #8 features a lineup of covers including a main cover by Mark Englert, and additional open-to-order covers by Conor Hughes, Gleb Melnikov, Ito, and Sanford Greene.
