Writer Warren Ellis and artist Bryan Hitch have been killing it on The Batman’s Grave with a perfect balance of tense action and a wittiness to make even the darkest knight crack a smile. If you’re not caught up on the series, this preview for The Batman’s Grave #7 is a great example as to why you should be.

In the last issue, Ellis, Hitch, colorist Alex Sinclair and letterer Richard Starkings, took Batman and Gordon through Arkham (displaying some excellent banter), and now, the pair continues to investigate a murder that doesn’t quite make sense. With the forthcoming seventh issue, Batman’s Grave is just over its 12-issue terminus. The maxiseries was long-anticipated through the rumor mill, as well as by longtime fans of Ellis and Hitch, who caught industry attention in the early 2000s with a twelve-issue run on The Authority.

Below, check out four unlettered preview pages of The Batman’s Grave #7. You can pick it up digitally or through your LCS on June 9.

Here’s the official solicitation:

“There’s a lunatic on the loose and a dead body inside a supposedly impregnable home. Members of the justice system are being murdered, and nobody knows what’s happening. Does the Batman have the single clue that’s the key to the whole nightmare?”
