Among the many astonishing tales Peter David penned during his twelve-year run on Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk is Future Imperfect. Illustrated by artist George Pérez, Future Imperfect debuted an alternate future dictator version of the Hulk known as the Maestro. Little has been known about the character beyond a handful of appearances over the years, but now David is returning to the world of Future Imperfect once more, along with previous Hulk artistic collaborator Dale Keown and artist Germán Peralta, for a new Maestro series that will finally explore the character’s origins.
In a statement announcing the new series (which is of indeterminate length but seems likely to be limited), David expressed his pleasure at fans’ enduring interest in The Maestro, and at returning to work on him once again:
“I had no idea that when I first created the Maestro for Future Imperfect, that he would have the kind of popularity and staying power he has now,” recounts Peter David. “Until now, I’ve only been able to allude to his origins, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to explore them in this series, and I can’t wait for fans to see all the artwork that’s been coming in!”
The writer of acclaimed stories for both Marvel and DC Comics, David will doubtlessly forever be associated with the Incredible Hulk, a character he wrote from 1987 until 1998. Though his tenure writing the Hulk has long since been completed, David has been known to return to the character on occasion, as he did for 2002’s Hulk: The End one-shot, also illustrated by Keown. David also penned a Secret Wars tie-in mini featuring The Maestro, who has resurfaced a number of times over the years not just in comics but also in other media like the Marvel Contest of Champions video game.

It remains a bit shady what Keown’s involvement in this series will be. Will it be (co-)artist of main cover artist?
I’ve met Peter David at a book signing at one of the comic book stores I frequent to and he was saying something about the book X-Factor and about Shatterstar being Dazzlers son and I tried to tell him that Spiral is the actual biological mother of Shatterstar who used her mystic power to disguise herself as Dazzler in order to get pregnant by Longshot but he was such a jerk about it but she did miscarry that child and the former Ricochet Rita aka Spiral the first girlfriend of Longshot carried his child hPeter is not a very nice person but karma did get him through the IRS.
