Looks like Season 5 and the movie were not the end of the popular Cartoon Network animated series Steven Universe. The network and the show’s creator Rebecca Sugar revealed this week at New York Comic Con 2019 that there will be an epilogue limited series, Steven Universe Future, giving the show the best conclusion it deserves. The series also will feature a new opening sequence. The synopsis reads:

“After saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people’s problems to solve, he’ll finally have to face his own.”

Steven Universe Future begins after Steven Universe: The Movie, which is two years after the show’s five season run. In the new opening revealed at the con and on Twitter, characters feature new looks and there is a whole cast of gems and humans as well as a fresh song. There are also hints at potential villains.

Another big announcement attached to the limited series is that Taneka Stotts is joining the writing team. Check out the tweet here.

As for a debut date, right now the network is saying “coming soon.” There is already speculation with what to expect from eagle-eyed fans looking for clues in the new title sequence. With the crystal gems growing in number and a new shirt for Steven, there is also a quick look at a completed Little Homeworld and both new and familiar faces.

For those new to the show, The Crystal Gems are a team of magical beings who also guard humanity and the universe. Steven is a half-human, half-Gem hero learning to save the world as he explores his new abilities, including fusion, which is the Gems’ ability to merge their bodies and abilities to form more powerful entities.
