THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE heralds New York Times best-selling writer Neil Gaiman’s return to the art form that made him famous, ably abetted by artistic luminary JH Williams III (BATWOMAN, PROMETHEA), whose lush, widescreen images provide an epic scope to The Sandman’s origin story. From the birth of a galaxy to the moment that Morpheus is captured, THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE will feature cameo appearances by fan-favorite characters such as The Corinthian, Merv Pumpkinhead and, of course, the Dream King’s siblings: Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Destruction and Destiny.
Enigma!!! So glad to see this finally being reprinted!
Some of these dates can’t be correct. I doubt two Flash and two Astro City collections are arriving the same day.
And Batman I guess isn’t getting a Golden Age Omnibus like Supes did last year.
oh, so we learned that Larfleeze is ending with issue 12 ;'(
Oh, I can’t believe a Scalped Deluxe Edition is a year away! If only I had the power to reach through time….
March 2015 seems pretty optimistic for the SANDMAN OVERTURE collection, considering the second issue isn’t even out yet, almost five months after #1.
@DanielT The series are listed with the same dates because they are combinations of a new hardcover and a softcover of the previous collection, e.g. the Through Open Doors hardover is coming out next month while the following two books are both in September.
Astro City: Through Open Doors
$16.99 USD / $19.99 CAD
176 pages Paperback / softback / Trade paperback (US)
Astro City: View From Above
$24.99 USD / $28.99 CAD
176 pages Hardback
Flash: A Celebration of 75 Years – WAAAANNNTT!!!
The Omnibus I’m not so enthused about – DC seems to start over with the early Silver Age every time they come out with a new format. I’m beginning to think they’ll never make it past 1965 or so.
@DanielT, look more closely at those double-shipping Flash & Astro City collections. in both cases, one book is the latest hardcover, and the other is the softcover of the previous collection. I’m fairly certain DC’s done it before.
What the… I swear Ralf’s comment wasn’t there when I started typing, and there’s no way I spent an hour on that.
Even though “Batman: The Long Halloween” has some great stuff in both illustration and writing, I actually think that the three stories from the original “Batman: Haunted Knight” TP are better. It’s nice to see them getting the Absolute treatment (although the decision to do it was probably taken just to cash in on the popularity of the Loeb-Sale team). They remain my favorite Batman tales from Loeb and Sale (At least for now; I haven’t read “Batman: Dark Victory” or “Catwoman: When in Rome” yet).
At least five of these promises will never materialize. Can you guess WHICH five?
-B
And now I feel even more oblivious than before. Someone pointed out that both of those New 52 Flash collections are listed as softcover. The point still stands about vol. 4 being a follow-up to the HC of the same, but if they’re dropping from HC-to-TPB down to just TPB, it’s an odd way to time it.
Buh? The Batwoman trade doesn’t come with the Annual that’s supposed to wrap up the Batman crossover?
Interesting that FABLES v21 collects up to #149, the second last issue, and comes out just a few weeks after FABLES #149 will be published, by the current schedule, which is unusual for DC. Does that mean that FABLES #150 and FABLES v22 will effectively be the same book, or is there other stray stuff to collect in v22?
As for Hibbs’ challenge of five books from this list that won’t exist, I’d say THE MOVEMENT and KATANA are a good bet, maybe a few more of the lower selling New 52 books like LARFLEEZE. At least one of the lower selling Vertigo books, maybe FPB v2. One of the SHOWCASE PRESENTS books, probably UNKNOWN SOLDIER, maybe BLUE BEETLE. And as noted, SANDMAN OVERTURE has almost no chance of coming out on that date, though it will obviously exist eventually.
Showcase Presents Captain Carrot AND Blue Beetle?!?!
SOLD!!!!
Ralf, Kelson– both the Flash collections are softcover.
Which Kelson already noted, I see.
YESSSSSS! The second volume of Martian Manhunter! I was worried that since the first volume didn’t have a “Vol. 1” designation that they had no plans to continue the reprints. I’ve sold a nice amount of the first one and can now deliver the good news to those people that it will continue!
The FLASH thing is probably just a mistake. There are a bunch of them in there, this isn’t the most carefully proofread list out there (that Curt Swan collection only has two parts of a three issue story listed, and I doubt the SUPERMAN UNCHAINED softcover will collect only 7 of the 9 issues of the series, and for $5 more than the hardcover).
That said, DC does always have a bit of a scheduling problem when switching a series from serial-to-hardcover-to-softcover to serial-to-softcover.
Don’t trust any of the dates but good to see their plans
WOO-HOO for Chaykin and Garcia Lopez’s TWILIGHT!!! A forgotten treasure with STUNNING art from the masterful JGL.
Yeah for Martian Manhunter !
And it looks like collections from Wildstorm are coming …
I think the Summary for “Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse” is wrong. The page count, title, creative teams, all seem to point to this being the softcover of the Curse from last year (which reprinted 80’s stuff), but the summary indicated it’s from the New 52 series.
What kind of “50 Years Celebration” of Teen Titans doesn’t mention Bob Haney and Nick Cardy?
Disappointed that there are no Archives in this list. :(
Ronin Deluxe Edition! Twilight! YEES!!!
Still waiting for Full Color Tomahawk, Rip Hunter and/or Sea Devils. Me and about 4 other guys, I’d imagine.
When was the last archives volume?
It would seem that DC has collected all of the Golden Age comics which could support a $50+ hardcover.
Silver Age onward? Deluxe or Omnibus editions seem to be the SOP.
…and let me campaign for a Showcase Legends volume.
Six issues in the main series, 22 tie-in issues. Easily within the Showcase parameters.
The last Archive branded book from DC was Silver Age Titans v2 last November, the last of only four they published in 2013. They still have an early silver age Superman on the schedule for May, but otherwise have nothing on the schedule, and have cancelled orders for a few they announced.
@Ed Catto: Add the original Secret Six to that list, and I’m with you.
Re: Archives, BobH is correct. The Superman: Man of Tomorrow Vol 3 comes out soon (May, but there is already a copy on Ebay), but it was re-solicited, so I am hoping that the Captain Comet volume will still be published eventually.
I do hope the Archives will continue. The Wonder Woman volume that reprinted the Silver Age stories did relatively well, and I think there are a lot of other opportunities (more Legion and JLA volumes, for instance). If there’s a switch to Omnibus editions, well, ok. but that just means years before some of these classic stories see print, since DC is starting all over again.
why did they decide to scale back the dimensions of the Gotham City Sirens book one. it’s two inches smaller than the previously released volumeds
