Back in 2021, Warner Bros. announced plans for a Merry Little Batman animated holiday special in the vein of Home Alone but with Batman’s six-year-old son, Damian Wayne. With the content purge as a result of the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger, many assumed that this special got the axe. However, according to Deadline it appears that the Merry Little Batman holiday special has been acquired by Amazon and will be available on its streaming platform.

The official description of Merry Little Batman:

After Damian Wayne is left alone in Wayne Manor on Christmas Eve, he transforms himself into “Little Batman” to safeguard his home and the rest of Gotham City from supervillains during the holiday season.

Marry Little Batman is produced by Warner Bros. Based on animation and characters from DC, the film is directed by Mike Roth from a screenplay by Morgan Evans. Roth also serves as executive producer, alongside Sam Register.

Merry Little Batman holidayMoreover, it appears that the special will lead into a spinoff series entitled Bat-Family that also been picked up by Amazon. Jase Ricci, Mike Roth and Sam Register are set to executive produce the series, which is produced by Warner Bros. Animation.

This comes on the heels of Amazon rescuing yet another Batman animated show from the chopping block after not only acquiring but giving a second season order to the much-anticipated Batman: Caped Crusader animated series from from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves.

According to Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios:

Batman: The Animated Series helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation. Batman: Caped Crusader will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it seems safe to expect this holiday special to arrive before the end of the year.
