Oh yeah and speaking of the mainstream…when Marvel announced a new book via a very perplexed cast on The View, it was unstadnabale bcuase both are owned by Disney. However, The Colbert Report is owned by Viacom, so tonight’s Joe Quesada appearance and book announcement is a little more “authentic” if you will. Also, props to Marvel for a creative way around the San Diego Show biz news logjam.

Quesada has been a guest on The Colbert Report previously (in 2006 and 2008, above), and Colbert was famously given Captain America’s shield, which you can see hanging on the wall in most episodes. He’s also a big comics fan…and slated to take over David Letterman’s late night slot next year. Will Quesada be back when it’s a CBS show? We’ll see!

Marvel is excited to announce that on Wednesday, July 16th, at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, Marvel’s Joe Quesada will be announcing an all-new comic book title and all-new era for one of Marvel’s most classic Super Heroes on the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central.

“The Colbert Report” airs Monday-Thursday at 11:30 p.m. and repeats at 1:30 a.m. the same night and at 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. the following day (all times ET/PT).  Full episodes, as well as clips, are posted for viewing the following day at www.ColbertNation.com with URL and embed links.

  1. Marvel’s not gonna pull the same stunt with two characters simultaneously, so it won’t be a female Cap.

Instead Cap is getting a new creative team and a make-over as a stylish teenager.
