Marvel surprise announced a new upcoming mobile game, and it looks very impressive. Marvel Snap is a collectible card game developed by Nuverse and Second Dinner, the latter of which was founded Ben Brode, the former director of Hearthstone, one of the most popular and acclaimed digital card games in the world. The studio is also made up of other ex-Hearthstone developers, so there’s plenty of reason to believe they have the ability to make Marvel Snap into something special.

With the announcement, Marvel shared a 7-minute trailer featuring a cinematic of the heroes taking on a Baby Galactus and an introduction to the gameplay.

Players compete with each other in best-out-of three matches, with the goal of obtaining Cosmic Cubes. The developers highlighted how quick the gameplay is compared to other card games, in part by letting opponents play their cards at the same time. The titular “snap” is a move that lets players double down to raise the stakes of the match.

Marvel Snap will launch with 150 base cards to play with, and more are introduced each season. The developers promise you can get the cards without paying anything, but the game has to make money, so presumably you’ll be able to obtain cards more quickly if you’re willing to pony up.

Marvel Snap is mobile first, coming to both iOS and Android, but the developers are also working on a PC version of the game. There’s no release date yet, but you can go to the Marvel Snap website to sign up for the limited closed beta on Android devices.
